Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Undated edition, but gift inscription on the front end paper is dated 1895. Firmly bound, forward leaning black boards without a jacket. Some marks and handling wear, Foxing mostly on the first few pages is quite heavy in places.

This volume is actually an edition of William Motherwell's "Ancient and Modern Minstrelsy" without the modern, which have been substituted with more ancient ballads from various sources. Internally, heavy spotting to first and last few pages. Pages in good clean condition. A good copy, in a very attractive binding. Size: Large 8vo.

Two volume, I: x, 414pp, II: x, 465pp, volume I has handwritten notes to inner endpaper with further notes on a tipped in piece of paper, and pencil annotation to p38, volume II has notes on a tipped in piece of paper at inner endpaper, pages appear to be free from foxing, marbled endpapers and edges to match half green calf and marbled boards, spines have raised bands with gilt lettering on red and brown - a very good set.
