Hardcover. Condition: Good. Illustrated Edition. This is a beautifully bound antique poetry anthology, "The Token and Atlantic Souvenir - A Christmas and New Year's Present" edited by S.G. Goodrich. 1840; Otis, Broaders & Company; Boston. The book is a collection of poems by various contributors and features an illustrated title page, a "presentation plate," and eight engraved plates. Nicely bound in full leather with gilt decorations on the covers and spine, and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Contributors include Mrs. Sarah Helen Whitman, who was known for her relationship with Edgar Allan Poe. Condition: Clean covers and spine. Some rubbing to the leather at the cover corners, and along the edges of the spine. Bright gilt decorations on the covers and spine. Bright gilt on all sides of the text block. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The text pages are lightly age-toned with mostly mild foxing, though the foxing is heavier on the illustrated plates and the pages before/after them. A few pages at the front and a few of the engraved plates have a stain at the outer margin. Heavy tanning to the end papers and pastedowns (the tanning has taken on an orange-ish / brown-ish color). There is an old, barely legible inscription written in pencil on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.
