A collection of hymns and songs by and about African-Americans, with commentary and contributions from Alain Locke, Eubie Blake, Langston Hughes, Edwin C. Hill, George L. Bullock and many others. This copy boldly Inscribed by W.C. Handy in his characteristic scrawl dated in 1954, somewhat obscuring the recipient. Laid in is a business card for Billy Elmore's Melody Boys from New York City, and it is conceivable that Elmore is the recipient.
