A new venture for Mandeville, this book is published not in letterpress, but in offset litho, with the support of the Scottish Arts Council. It is a handsome production, matching Mandeville's usual editions, with a hand-printed card cover, a frontispiece portrait, and 24 pages of poems with introduction and notes by Robin Bell. The poems are the complete surviving works, long out of print, of this witty and courageous Scot- tish Cavalier, executed at Edinburgh in 1650. The ballads, lyrics and pasquils are direct, vigorous, full of life and passion. Excellent condition with no inscriptions.

He left behind family, good friends, and the mysterious "C.P.," a young woman with whom he hoped one day to be reunited. The journey usually took 130 days, but due to the incompetence of the captain and the many misadventures encountered it took the Planter almost six months to reach its destination. Along the way it lost a crew, several passengers, and much livestock; it gained a new crew and at least one extra passenger.
