Condition: Gut. 48 S. : Ill. ; 22 cm Einband berieben, sonstr gut und sehr sauber. - Aus dem Vorwort: Die vorliegende Broschüre geht auf einen Artikel in der Festschrift für den jüngst verstorbenen Bochumer, ehemals Leipziger Alttestamentler Siegfried Herrmann zurück, die 1991 unter dem Titel Prophetie und gesc…hichtliche Wirklichkeit im alten Israel im Kohlhammer-Verlag Stuttgart-Berlin-Köln erschienen ist. Der Text ist überarbeitet und erweitert, der Abbildungsteil gänzlich neu gestaltet worden. Obwohl der Aufsatz an einer für Leipziger Belange entlegenen Stelle publiziert ist, hat das lange übersehene Bildwerk, dem er sich widmet, seitdem einige Aktivitäten auf sich gezogen. 1995 wurde es vom Südwestflügel des Grassimuseums auf das geschützte Areal des wiederhergestellten Johannisfriedhofs zurückgeholt, auf dem es ursprünglich gestanden hatte, und erhielt im Winter eine hölzerne Schutzhütte. Kürzlich wurde es restauriert, um von seinem Stellplatz unter freiem Himmel in das Ägyptische Museum der Universität versetzt und im Ensemble der Grabdenkmale des Friedhofs durch eine Replik vertreten zu werden. [.] Mit dieser Wirkungsgeschichte ist aber die ägyptisierende Grab-säule nicht nur ein Denkmal für Friedrich August Wilhelm Spohn, der sich als erster an der Universität Leipzig mit Hieroglyphen beschäftigte, und für ihren Schöpfer Gustav Seyffarth, der zudem 1842 das erste ägyptische Original für die Universität kaufte und damit die ägyptische Sammlung begründet hat. Sie ist auch nicht nur ein beredter Zeuge der Kämpfe um die Entzifferung der ägyptischen Schriften, sondern steht zugleich für eine fast ununterbrochene Tradition von 175 Jahren lebendiger Ägyptologie in Leipzig. Nicht zuletzt deshalb wird sie zum Gedenken an die organisatorische Verselbständigung des Aegyptologischen Apparats unter Georg Ebers im Sommersemester 1874, also zum 125jährigen Institutsjubiläum, am 6. Mai 1999 an ihrem neuen Aufstellungsort vom Rektor der Universität enthüllt. Hier soll sie fortan nicht mehr nur Friedhofs-, sondern auch Museumsbesuchern die Aneignung des alten Ägypten als einen produktiven Prozeß vor Augen führen.
