Die Portraitzeichnungen zeigen Volkstypen. Scherbeck (1898-1989) war ein Zeichner und Photograph aus Nancy, der das Volksleben seiner lothringischen Heimat in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts photographisch und zeichnerisch dokumentiert hat, daneben aber auch andere französische Volkstypen wie vorliegend aus dem Elsass, der Bretagne etc. portraitierte. Spaeth (1890-1972), ein bekannter elsässischer Dichter und Jounalist war u.a. Herausgeber des Journal d'Alsace-Lorraine. Er war auch Gründer der Academie d'Alsace und deren erster Präsident. Apparently Halder had sold Alsatian wine to Labaume and there was some misunderstanding about the total ("ce sont des fanaisies Monsieur, et il faut des braves pour bien réussir") .
