Brockhaus. - Engelmann p. 635 - Im KVK in dieser Form u. mit diesem Impressum nicht auszumachen - Ungewöhnliche und äusserst seltene, feingestochene Ansicht der Stadt Leipzig in Aufrissen, attraktiv abschattiert ('Wolkenschatten'), mit überfliegendem (Freiflug-) Ballon am Horizont, die Strassen und Plätze teilweise mit winzigen Personenstaffagen. Blick von Osten über Prachtsalleen (Hospitalstrasse und Täubchenweg) gegen den Augustusplatz (rechts vom Rossplatz) mit zwei Rondellen, dahinter u.a. das Augusteum, die Pauliner-, Nicolai- und Thomaskirche, im Vordergrund wohl die Gegend des Johannistales mit mehreren eingefriedeten, baumbestandenen und unterschiedlich genutzten und bebauten Arealen (teilw. ev. Villensiedlungen) wie z.B. die Johannisgärten sowie div. Friedhöfe, darunter der Judengottesacker und der Johanniskirchhof. Gegen Norden (rechter Bildrand) am Stadtrand mehrere Industrieanlagen mit rauchenden Kaminen. Die Landschaft im Hintergrund (gegen Miltitz, Pristäblich, Gundorf, Schkeuditz, Wahren und Stahmeln) ist nur sehr spärlich besiedelt. - Die Orientierung ist für den lokalhistorischen Laien nicht zuletzt aufgrund der besonderen Perspektive bzw. Darstellungsart, und der sowohl baulichen als auch bezeichnungsmässigen Veränderungen im Vergleich zu zeitlich verschiedenen Stadtplänen nicht ganz einfach, wird aber durch die vorgeschaltete kleine Übersichtsdarstellung mit Ortsbezeichnungen gut unterstützt. Ein detaillierter und daher ergiebiger Plan von 1823 in gleicher Ausrichtung findet sich online in wikimedia Leipzig 1823 jpg; in Brockhaus Bd. 11, 1894, sind sowohl ein doppels. Stadtplan 1 : 24'000 als auch eine Karte 1 : 133'500 von Leipzig und Umgebung abgebildet, die zum Verständnis der städtebaulichen Aspekte dieser Darstellung von Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts beitragen. -- Christian Adolf Eltzner (Leipzig 1816-1891 ibid), Kupfer- und Stahlstecher, Zeichner und Fotograf. "1846 machte er sich als Stahlstecher selbstständig und betrieb in der Zeitzer Straße 9 eine Stahlstichwerkstatt. Eltzner spezialisierte sich auf die Darstellung von Stadtansichten aus der Vogelperspektive. Seine Vogelschauen auf der Grundlage von Stadtplänen und Stadtgrundrissen erschienen unter anderem im illustrierten Familienblatt 'Die Gartenlaube'. [.] Vom Leipziger Stadtbild schuf er über 200 kleine Veduten von Stadtquartieren, Plätzen und Gebäuden und wurde so zu einem exakten Stadtchronisten der Mitte des 19 Jahrhunderts.
