In 1788 George Holland was granted a patent for a method of making stockings, gloves &c, for persons affected by gout, rheumatism, and other complaints requiring warmth. In 1820 Thomas Stott of Bromley received payment of £23 2s 0d for the inoculation of sixty-six children of the parish at seven shillings each.
