Dutch Hoe komt het toch dat 90% van de Brugge-boeken het altijd maar hebben over de historische stadskern van Brugge, terwijl ondertussen vier op de vijf Bruggelingen in de rand wonen? Radio- en televisiemaker Kurt Van Eeghem gooide de spreekwoordelijke knuppel in het hoenderhok: "Brugge is de schoonste stad van de werel", zegt hij, "de binnenstad is werelderfgoed. Maar de rand is een ramp. Voilà." Maar kénnen we de rand van Brugge eigenlijk wel? Eric Van Hove nam de uitdaging aan en begon aan zijn kruisweg, langs 14 staties. Hij vertrok telkens van een markante woning, een wat miskende architect of een belangrijke stedenbouwkundige om zo iets te vertellen over de geschiedenis en de evolutie van de rand van Brugge: de stad wordt rand, de rand wordt stad. Wie de hele tocht meemaakt en de verschillende puzzelstukjes in mekaar kan passen, krijgt zo een ander beeld over Brugge. En de tocht blijft niet steken in een ver en veilig verleden, maar mondt uit in een toekomstverhaal, een droom van een stad. Eric Van Hove (°1954) kon sinds de fusie van Groot-Brugge zeven burgemeesters van Brugge mee maken. Hij stond mee aan de wieg van de stadskrant De Lastige Bruggeling en was jarenlang kritisch stadsjournalist in Brugge. Lanceerde de oproek "Brugge, word wakker" in de aanloop naar Brugge Europese Culturele Hoofdstad 2002 en werd toen eerst kabinetschef van de buremeester en daarna jarenlange verantwoordelijke voor het Stedenfonds in Brugge. Blijft ijveren voor een leefbaar Brugge, ook met deze droom van een stad.

'La Vagabondo' (The Tramp) was the organ of 'La Esperantista Vagabonda Klubo', founded and edited by the artist Caroline Oxenford. Having previously been named 'La Vagabonda Monatajo' (January to March 1908) and 'La Vagabondisto' (April to July 1908), it became 'La Vagabondo' from September 1908. The First World War put an end to both club and magazine. The four issues are in fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Uniform in design, and each 12pp., 4to. (although the last number is slightly taller), in printed wraps carrying advertisements. The three numbers from '2-a Serio' (all by 'W. G. Mead & Co., Printers, East Putney, S.W.'), all in cream wraps, have the same illustration on the front cover showing the nighttime silhouette of a house against trees; the number from 'Serio 4' (by 'William Bishop, Printer, Market Street, Edinburgh') has an illustration of a bearded tramp in a hat, with 'Eric Forbes-Robertson E.F.R.' at the foot. The magazines contain work attributed to various individuals, including K. M. Thornton, Leo Belmont, H. Boucon, J. Simpson and Ch. Brunet, with club reports by M. S. Rutter and M. McNeillie.
