Als Professor für Theorie der Ästhetik lehrte er von 1978 bis 1990 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. 1986 hatte er eine Gastprofessur für Poetik in Bamberg und wurde 1988 Intendant des Internationalen Forums für Gestaltung in Ulm. Ab 1971 war Gomringer Mitglied der Berliner Akademie der Künste. 2000 gründete er das Institut für Konstruktive Kunst und Konkrete Poesie (IKKP). Gramm 600.
