Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition. One Volume in the series - 'Beauties of England and Wales'. This series originally published in 25 volumes. This volume is marked oddly, but form the complete MONMOUTHSHIRE, NORFOLK and NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Volume. The Volume is bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. The spine has some flaws/damage, some splitting to the edges of the spine, split all down the front edge - but holding so far, some loss to the foot of the spine and rubbing to the head of the spine, but all hinges holding at the moment and an attractive book. ALL Edges Marbled. Internally the volume has marbled endpapers and 2 former owners labels to the front pastedown - just the printed names in fancy old type - Bevington Gibbins and, below, his son - Frederick J. Gibbins ( Bevington Gibbins born 1792 in Aston, Birmingham, married Rebecca Tregelles, The Tregelles-Price family were owners of the Iron Works in Neath Abbey. ). On the ffep opposite is the bookplate of 'Neath Antiquarian Society'. All volumes have a copper engraved Frontispiece and engraved title, followed by a printed title. The Engraved title shows the volume as Vol. XI, as does the printed title, but at the foot of the spine it reads Vol. XV. No plate list, but the Monmouthshire section = (8) + 184 pp + 2pp 'List of Books' + 5pp Index. Copper engraved b/w frontispiece + engraved title + 9 Plates. Norfolk = (1) + 368 pp + 8 pp 'List of Books' + 8 pp Index. 20 Plates. Northamptonshire = 239 pp + (1) + 5 pp 'List of Books' + (2 pp = odd Misc. Plate list ! ) + 7 pp Index. 6 Plates. It seems as if different paper stock was used for different sections of the book as some page blocks are lightly browned throughout, and others generally clean, tho all text readable at all times. Some foxing spots/patches and thumbing here and there, some browning to the pages opposite the plates, 'tho for most part the plates are generally pretty clean, but some have foxing/patching to the margins. At the time of listing I have other volumes in this series, in uniform bindings, but in various conditions - please enquire if interested.
