A survey of U.S.S.R. work, achievements, and plans for the future in the field of space flight, written by a prominent Soviet space scientist. The Soviet account carries the story through the launching of Sputniks I and II; Willy Ley's postscript describes the two subsequent Russian rockets--Sputnik III and Metchta. The Soviet author avoids politics and confines himself to the science and technology of astronautics, with full recognition of the work being done in other countries, particularly the United States.

Very good with neat inscription on front endpaper, "G.D.H, from R. - Christmas 1924". Browning to endpapers. Crushing at head of spine and tanning at spine, with slight chipping at lower front corner, otherwise sound, near very good with clean text.
