This historical perspective of the Danish goldsmith trade in Varde from 1600-1870 is well-researched and explained. The masters in the 17th and 18th centuries that established themselves in Varde came from outside the area and several of these masters, as well as later ones, are profiled here. The Varde-MastersÆ production can be roughly divided into 3 main groups: church silver (chalices, patens, and wafer cases), dinner silver (big jugs to cutlery), and ornaments for clothing (buttons, buckles, and jewelry).
