Add to basketHardback. Condition: Good to Very Good. Fred. A. Farrell (illustrator). First Edition. 1920. First edition. 30pp., frontispiece and a map. This is followed by 63 plates of sketches (8 in colour) with a brief description of the event portrayed on a preceding page. The 51st (Highland) Division was an infantry division of the British Army that fought on the Western Front in France during the First World War from 1915 to 1918. The division was raised in 1908 as the Highland Division and later 51st (Highland) Division from 1915. Frederick Arthur Farrell enlisted as a Sapper at the outbreak of the First World War but was discharged due to ill health. He then made two journeys to the Western Front in his capacity as a War Artist, first in November 1917 with the Highland Light Infantry, and secondly in late 1918 when he spent two months attached to the 51st (Highland) Division where he produced these sketches. The book is bound in the original tan cloth covered boards with black titling and a black and red emblem on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear, soiling, some staining and noticeable patchy damp marking to both boards. The corners and spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the bottom of the spine and the titling on the spine is worn. The contents are in better condition being tight and clean with no inscription. PLEASE NOTE: This is a fairly heavy book and extra postage may apply for delivery outside the UK.
