"Während sich zahlreiche Untersuchungen mit den Aenderungen beschäftigt haben, die durch eine wechselnde Zufuhr sowohl in der Qualität als Quantität der Ausscheidungsstoffe hervorgebracht werden, hat man bis jetzt nur wenig darauf Rücksicht genommen, in welcher Zeit diese Zersetzungsproducte aus dem zugeführten Materiale entstehen und wie rasch sie wieder zur Ausscheidung gebracht werden. Man wusste nur im Allgemeinen, dass eine irgend erhebliche Anhäufung von Zersetzungsproducten im Thierkörper nicht stattfinden kann, ohne wesentliche Functionsstörungen herbeizuführen. Dass aber auch die Zersetzung des zugeführten Materiales sehr rasch erfolgt, ging aus einigen Untersuchungen hervor, welche die stündliche Verfolgung der ausgeschiedenen Harnstoffmenge zum Zwecke hatten. Abgesehen von den unzulänglichen Untersuchungen Becher's hat zuerst Voit am Menschen die stündliche Ausscheidung an Harnstoff und Kochsalz nach Aufnahme einer reichlichen aus Fleisch und Eiern bestehenden Kost mittels der Liebig'schen Titrirmethode controlirt. Schon nach einer Stunde war eine deutliche Vermehrung der Harnstoffausscheidung bemerklich, die rasch ansteigend in der siebenten Stunde den höchsten Punkt erreicht und sodann wieder langsam auf den Ausgangspunkt herabsinkt."
