Grund meines Schweigens war außerordentliche Überhäuftheit mit Arbeit, endlich mußte ich von 2 Büchern von mir neue Auflagen vorbereiten, die jetzt beide in Druck sind, noch mehr war ich in Anspruch genommen durch eine Arbeit, die ich mir aufgebürdet habe und endlich nach 6 Monaten fertig geworden ist. Ich ließ mich nemlich ersuchen, den Auctionskatalog der von der Tann'schen Autographensammlung herzustellen [.] Da mich nemlich die Massen von Fürsten und Staatsmännern überforderten, machte ich mich zuerst an die Dichter, Gelehrten, ferner an die Künstler und Musiker [.] und dann erst an die Fürsten etc. Hätte ich bei diesen begonnen, so hätte ich die Arbeit nicht fortgesetzt, ich hatte aber mit den übrigen Abtheilungen so viel Zeit vergeudet, daß ich nicht mehr abbrechen wollte. Ein Verzeichnis der Namen war wohl vorhanden, aber für einen Katalog nicht brauchbar, weil nirgends die Qualität eines Stückes noch Ort oder Datum eines Briefes angegeben war, auch nicht, ob ein oder ein Dutzend Stücke vorhanden sind [.] Die Auction wird wahrscheinlich in Leipzig stattfinden [.] Der netto Erlös soll für die vor mehreren Jahren in der Tann abgebrannte Kirche verwendet werden [.] Zu Ihren sehr bedeutenden Erwerbungen muß ich Ihnen aufrichtig Glück wünschen, aber den Gaston de Foix haben Sie doch zu theuer bezahlt [.] Bewundern muß ich, wo Sie nur die Sachen auftreiben [.]".
