Second, the author traces the evolution of Dutch drama from religious mystery plays through a period of moralizing didacticism to true secular drama. The author also discusses in depth major influences on Dutch theatre including the works of Shakespeare and French dramatists, as well as the impact of English touring companies on the development of the art form in the Netherlands.
