(Papier teils etwas fleckig). 20x14 cm * Friedrich Heinrich Ernst Freiherr von Wrangel, ab 1864 Graf von Wrangel, volkstümlich genannt Papa Wrangel (* 13. April 1784 in Stettin; 1. November 1877 in Berlin) war ein preußischer Generalfeldmarschall. Friedrich Freiherr von Wrangel stammte aus der alten deutschbaltisch-schwedisch-pommerschen Offiziersfamilie Wrangel. Er war der Sohn des preußischen Generalmajors Friedrich Ernst von Wrangel (* 7. April 1720 in Ambothen, Livland; 13. Januar 1805 in Kolberg) und dessen Ehefrau Sophie Luise Elisabeth von Below aus dem Hause Reetz (* 26. August 1752; 26. April 1805 in Kolberg). Militärkarriere: Bereits 1796, als Zwölfjähriger, trat er als Gefreiterkorporal beim Dragonerregiment von Werther Nr. 6 in die Preußische Armee ein. Dort wurde er am 8. Juni 1797 Fähnrich und am 5. Oktober 1798 Sekondeleutnant. Als solcher focht Wrangel in den Napoleonischen Kriegen bei Preußisch Eylau und Heilsberg. In dieser Schlacht führte er einen gelungenen Angriff auf ein französisches Karree durch, erlitt dabei einen Schuss in die Schulter und wurde für sein tapferes Verhalten am 18. Juli 1807 mit dem Orden Pour le Mérite ausgezeichnet. Wrangel wurde dann in das Kürassierregiment Nr. 3 versetzt und am 19. März 1808 zunächst zum Premierleutnant, dann am 18. April 1809 zum Stabskapitän befördert und schließlich am 20. September 1811 zum Eskadronchef ernannt. Er kämpfte in den Befreiungskriegen 1813 in den Schlachten bei Bautzen und Großgörschen, wurde am 3. August 1813 Major und zeichnete sich mit seiner Reiterei auch in der Schlacht bei Leipzig als draufgängerischer Truppenführer aus. Wrangel war 1814 auch am Feldzug in Frankreich beteiligt und wurde dabei am 13. Mai 1814 zum Oberstleutnant und am 3. Oktober 1815 zum Oberst befördert. Im folgenden Jahr 1815 rückte er wieder in Frankreich ein, kam aber wegen des frühen Friedensschlusses mit seiner Reiterei nicht mehr zum Einsatz. Am 25. März 1821 wurde er Kommandeur der 10. Kavallerie-Brigade und erhielt am 30. März 1823 den Rang eines Generalmajors. Am 13. November 1834 übernahm er das Kommando über die 13. Division in Münster. Als es dort 1837 infolge der Kölner Wirren zu Unruhen kam, schlug Wrangel diesen Aufruhr schnell nieder und wurde am 30. März 1838 zum Generalleutnant befördert. Am 20. November 1839 wurde er zum Kommandierenden General des I. Armee-Korps in Königsberg ernannt, am 7. April 1842 tauschte er dieses Kommando und übernahm die Führung des II. Armee-Korps in Stettin. Am 20. April 1848 wurde er zum General der Kavallerie befördert und übernahm nach Beruhigung der Berliner Revolution am 13. November 1849 das Kommando des dortigen III. Armee-Korps. Am 15. August 1856 erhielt er schließlich den Rang eines Generalfeldmarschalls der Preußischen Armee. Sein Stammtruppenteil war das aus einem altpreußischen Dragonerregiment hervorgegangene Ostpreußische Kürassierregiment Nr. 3, dessen Chef er 1845 wurde und das 1889 offiziell seinen Namen erhielt. Revolution 1848: Im Revolutionsjahr 1848 befehligte Wrangel vom 21. April bis zum Waffenstillstand von Malmö am 26. August die preußischen Truppen im Schleswig-Holsteinischen Krieg. Am 10. November 1848 marschierte Wrangel, den König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. zum Oberkommandierenden in den Marken ernannt hatte, gegen das revolutionäre Berlin. Von seiner Entschlossenheit sollte die Entscheidung zwischen Revolution und Reaktion maßgeblich abhängen. Die Revolutionäre hatten gedroht, seine Frau aufzuknüpfen, falls Wrangel in die Hauptstadt einrücken würde; gleichwohl führte er die Truppen in die Stadt und soll beim Durchqueren des Brandenburger Tores, damals die Berliner Stadtgrenze im Westen, zu seinem Adjutanten gesagt haben: Ob se ihr jetze woll uffjehangen haben? Es kam zum Disput mit dem Kommandanten der Bürgerwehr, Major Otto Rimpler: Beide verständigten sich auf einen unblutigen Ablauf, und die Bürgerwehr ergab sich.
