Plastified softcover. Condition: Used. Primera edición. Good condition. Normal shelf wear. Hardcover. Condition: Good. An extremely scarce, signed and inscribed copy of Castro's History Will Absolve Me. Inscribed in Spanish, "For Mario Mencia, for your great interest and studies in the subject, and with revolutionary embrace, my regards, Fidel Castro". Mencia was a historian of the Cuban Revolution who wrote favorably about Castro. A wonderful and scarce association copy. Book is about good condition, showing many of the issues that books store poorly in the Caribbean tend to. There is bumping, damage from humidity and transfer from the slipcover to the boards, first several pages are adhered to front pastedown, tape repairs are present in multiple spots. Book is still structurally secure, but could do with some restorative attention. Please ask for additional photos of this item. Tall quarto of 192 pages, white boards, pictorial slipcase. Hardcover. Condition: Close to Fine. First Edition. Original pictorial wraps bound in black morocco-backed gilt-lettered dark blue morocco leather; 97 pages. Lengthily INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the half-title page by Fidel Castro to Lieutenant Pedro García Peláez sending him this book in acknowledgment of his birthday and the wars that they have fought in together. The lieutenant would later become General Pedro García Pelaez, a top military aide to Castro, the head of the Cuban Military Mission in Angola, and the Chief of Combat Readiness. In 1959 he was head of the personal escort of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. Though not dated, this was likely inscribed close to publication. Books signed by Castro are scarce, and this is a specially interesting example. Born in the Dominican Republic, Maximo Gomez was Cuba's military commander in that country's War of Independence (1895-1898) and a hero of the struggle which ended Spanish domination over Cuba. He refused the presidential nomination offered to him in 1901, which he was expected to win unopposed, mainly because he always disliked politics, and after 40 years of living in Cuba he still felt that, being Dominican-born, he should not be the civil leader of Cuba.

Condition: Very Good. A collection that includes three Signed and Inscribed books, two Inscribed photographs and an Autograph Note in English Signed. The books (two in wrappers, the third an embossed leatherette hardcover) are generally very good with toning and wear at the extremities; the paperbacks have additional tape repaired spines and one is also dampstained with a few scrapes. The photos are fine in wooden frames and the ANS is about very good with some light toning and tape repairs to all four corners. The books include two written by Castro himself: a 1975 second edition of *Hoy Somos Un Pueblo Entero* [*Today We Are an Entire People*] Signed and dated in the year of publication, and a 1985 first edition of *Esta Tiene Que Ser la Guerra Economica de Todo el Pueblo* [*This Must Be the Economic War of all People*] Inscribed: "Por Nuestra Patria [For Our Country] Fidel Castro." The third book is the 1951 yearbook of the University of Tampa, *Moroccan*, Inscribed on the title page on October 1955 in Spanish. Loosely translated it reads: "Thanks to Imelda and her friends of Tampa for help with our new revolution in Cuba Dr. Fidel Castro." Castro came to Tampa in November, 1955 seeking support for his revolution why he was asked to inscribe this yearbook is unknown. The two framed photos, each measuring 5" x 3½", show a uniformed Castro in a group shaking hands and another of him in profile. Each is Signed by Castro with brief notes referencing the revolution. Likely signed in 1955 since one is Inscribed to the same "Imelda." The ANS is written in English on a piece of ruled paper, dated "Sep - 21- 1959," and sent from Havana. It reads: "To: Manuel Clark A great greeting from your friend in Cuba. I believe you are headed Towards a great road 'Until Victory Always' your friend Fidel Castro." A nice collection of rare signed and inscribed material from one of the most polarizing and influential political figures of the 20th Century. In just a few items it manages to encompass his life from popular revolutionary leader and celebrity who visited the U.S. in the 1950s to attract support for his cause, to that of prime minister of the new Cuba, and later the entrenched leader of the embargo Communist nation. Further details available upon request.
