Included are three paintings by V. Balfour-Browne, and one by Drew Bain which is a copy of an original by V. Balfour-Browne. The first three paintings did not appear in the first edition, and the format of this second edition differs from that of the first in order to accomodate the plates. Chapters include: First impressions; Deer-stalking in the Forest of Achnacarry; Reflections on deer-stalking; Hosts and guests; The season in the deer forest; Deer-stalking, ancient and modern; Amateurs and professionals; October in the deer forest; Wade's lieutenant; The prince and the pedlar; A thief in the night; The Sturgeon; The Big Stag of Coire Mor; A memory of "B.B."
