Couverture rigide. Condition: Assez bon. in 12 de 191 pp., ill. d'un front. gravé, (qui manque à cet exemplaire) demi-veau blond époque, dos lisse orné. Bon exemplaire sans le frontispice. Très rares mémoires restés anonymes sur les châtiments corporels infligés par les jésuites. Chez les Jésuites le châtiment par flagellation devait être administré par un "correcteur spécial", attaché à l'établissement. A mesure que la Compagnie de Jésus devint plus puissante, son personnel enseignant, recruté avec moins de soin, usa d'autant plus des coups qu'il était moins capable d'enseigner avec méthode. Ces "Orbilius", comme on a appelé les maîtres fouetteurs se plaisaient à administrer eux-mêmes le fouet à leurs élèves petits et grands. Ailleurs, c'était un ouvrier, un serviteur, ou bien le portier de l'établissement, qui était chargé de cette fonction. L'ouvrage a été réédité en 1912 comme curiosa avec le pré-titre "la flagellation chez les Jésuites" - Manque à Gay.

Extremities moderately bumped and lightly soiled. Endpapers with areas of darkening. Text block of volume 7 cracked a couple of times. Seven tracts on flagellation (flogging). The Library Illustrative of Social Progress was a series of books dealing with erotica and published by John Camden Hotten circa 1872. John Camden Hotten claimed that his series of flagellation reprints had been taken from Henry Thomas Buckle's collection, but that was untrue, as reported by Henry Spencer Ashbee. Ashbee claims that the books were actually reprinted from a collection of books that were in his collection.

Rarissime édition originale en bel état général.

Un des 500 exemplaires numérotés sur Hollande ( n° 51 ) après 5 sur kapon impérial du tirage de tête. A noter que la numérotation au composteur a été effectué à l'envers. Rare édition originale de ce classique de l'érotisme, consacré à la flagellation.

Intérieur frais, malgré que le bord extérieur des pages 11 et 12 soit un peu mal coupé, mais sans aucun impact sur le texte. Roman érotique de Pierre Mac Orlan sous le pseudonyme de Sadie Blackeyes suivi de lettres concernant la Flagellation des Femmes et des Filles. Contient de superbes illustrations en noir, hors texte, par Louis Malteste. Rare édition originale, surtout dans un tel état de fraicheur générale.

A historical resumé of and an attack on the practice of self-flagellation, written by Abbé Jacques Boileau (1635-1716), translated from his own Historia Flagellantium which appeared in the preceding year. An abridged version appeared in Cologne the same year as this Amsterdam (possibly fictitious imprint). Boileau was the brother of the poet, Nicolas Boileau. Contemporary sprinkled calf, gilt spine. Joints starting but sound, otherwise very good [xvi], 319, [320-330, Table] pp. Title in red and black. Error in pagination, omitting page numbers 50-59. 1 vols. 12mo.

A collection of sadistic drawings. Small folio, 38 drawings on full pages; 27 fully worked in coloured pencils, with 11 on versos with some partly erased, all in pencil with a few partly coloured, 14 versos also annotated largely in blue pen in French, bound in on stubs, with a signed ?frontispiece' tipped on to a cutaway cream paper window, tissues guards, blanks, in recent quarter blue straight grained morocco, marbled paper boards, gilt titles on spine, 5 raised bands. We do not know who the creator of these outsider style drawings is, though he signs himself as 'Roger' (British slang for sex) . In his sort of prefatory note addressed to ' ma petite cherie', he (for this is surely a man) declares that, to paraphrase in English, there is no doubt that the little sketch will invert you to be even more severe and cruel than Catherine de Medici to her pages and exacerbate the inflcition of a thrilling and refined perversity on the ass of your Page till he has ejaculated in grey spurts from his penis for your satisfaction. The declaration is in effect a signed ?slave contract' giving the object of his submissions carte blanche to do with him as she will - as long as it is within the bounds of his gynocratic fantasy world. Much of the remaining work depicts the pathology of Roger's psychosexual development and the important episodes that fixed his love of being sissied, punished, taught obeisance and humiliated. The second picture depicts what seems to be seminal scene of ?Roger' being beaten by his mother while another woman looks on sternly, again his buttocks are reddened, this is described on the verso as a ' fessée honteuse' or a shameful spanking. Further pictures involve other female members of his family such as his grandmother administering punishment in various quotidian domestic settings such as the kitchen table. Another picture depicts a comrade from his college days being spanked by two aunts and another seems to show an ?inflexible father' beating Suzanne, a 15 year old. Thus showing how endemic spanking was to Roger's world. The final plate is the ultimate humiliation, Roger is dressed as a girl, his skirts lifted and he is being spanked by his mother at his grandmother's request. He describes this scenario as a not infrequent punishment for damaging his trousers. 216465.
