Hartleben's Chronik der Zeit. 5. Heft".- Der Ringtheaterbrand war eine der größten Brandkatastrophen des 19. Jahrhunderts in Österreich-Ungarn und ereignete sich am 8. Dezember 1881 in Wien. Die Anzahl der Todesopfer liegt nach offiziellen Angaben bei 384; Schätzungen gehen von noch mehr Toten aus. Zu der Zeit fand im Ringtheater die zweite Vorstellung von Jacques Offenbachs Hoffmanns Erzählungen statt. Die Besucher nahmen ihre Plätze ein, während hinter der Bühne bei fünf Schaukästen die Gasbeleuchtung entzündet wurde. Durch Versagen der elektropneumatischen Zündvorrichtungen strömte Gas aus, welches beim nächsten Zündversuch explodierte. Das entstehende Feuer sprang zunächst auf die Prospektzüge über, bevor es sich rasch über den Rest der Bühne und schließlich im Zuschauerraum ausbreitete.- Vortitel mit kleinem Besitzer-Stempel. Einband bestoßen und berieben. Buchblock etwas gelockert. Stempel und Aufkleber eines Vorbesitzer aus Titelblatt. Seiten papierbedingt etwas gebräunt. Am 8. Dezember 1881 brach im fast voll besetzten Wiener Ringtheater kurz vor Beginn einer Aufführung ein Brand aus, der sich rasch von der Bühne in den Zuschauerraum ausbreitete und Panik auslöste. Aufgrund baulicher Mängel, fehlender Sicherheitsmaßnahmen und verspäteter Alarmierung der Feuerwehr konnten viele Menschen nicht fliehen; mindestens 386 Personen kamen ums Leben. Der anschließende Ringtheaterprozess machte erhebliche Versäumnisse bei Sicherheit und Organisation sichtbar und führte zu Konsequenzen sowie neuen Regelungen für den Brandschutz in Theatern.
