A guide to the town, promoting the advantages of Folkestone as a healthy place to visit, and providing practical advice for those who might wish to rent a house or apartment for the season, stated to run from mid-July to the end of September. The book contains chapters on the history, geographical situation, water supply, drainage and sea bathing. It particularly examines the climate, including the temperature, sunshine, rainfall, relative humidity and wind, concluding that its 'ever-fresh air.is one of its most prominent features,' and 'the reason why persons feel exhilarated in Folkestone.' By a physician and public health specialist, who was also a Surgeon-Lieutenant in the First Volunteer Battalion East Kent Regiment. Scarce guide to Folkestone in 1899, complete with map.
