Printed at the Torch Press. Includes "The Art of Sidney Smith" by Gardner Teall, and a complete checklist of Smith's bookplates (188 in all). Smith did bookplates for the American Antiquarian Society, Harvard College Library, Charles Goodspeed, Cortland Bishop, Daniel Fearing, William Loring Andrews, etc. Among those illustrated here, as a copperplate impression, is A. Edward Newton's famous Oak Knoll bookplate of 1909, showing Temple Bar with a quote from Hill's Boswell. Also here are "Sidney Hunt's Bookplates" by James Guthrie, "Bookplates as Works of Art" by Ralph Pearson, a directory of 145 bookplate artists, and an illustrated catalogue of the Ninth Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Bookplates.
