Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Wheeler, David Cole (cover design); Corbis (cover image); Paddock, Paul (book design) (illustrator). 1st Edition. Fine unread condition glossy color illustrated softcover wraps. Includes Author Dedication; Preface; Prologue; Afterword; Glossary; Appendix I; Appendix II and Appendix III. Illustrated with a section of black-and-white photographs. "At eighteen, with a brutal stretch in an upstate New York prison behind him, Frankie Saggio graduated from violent street-crime - sticking up drug dealers and stealing cars with his best-man-to-be Mike Hollywood, son of a police detective - to more lucrative white-collar jobs: Frankie details the takeover and bankrupting of a string of Wall Street brokerage houses, a pornography protection racket, mob forays into film production, and the scam for which Frankie was finally busted, the selling of fake pay telephone routes. As one of the biggest earners in the mob, Frankie worked for each of New York's big five families, refusing to pledge his allegiance to any single organization. But Frankie's status in mob limbo could only last so long and against his wishes he was drafted into the Bonanno family - responsible for the murder of his beloved uncle and role model, Philly "Lucky." The friction between Frankie and his new family culminates in a failed assassination attempt that pushes Frankie into the arms of federal prosecutors. Born to the Mob gives a picture of the day-to-day life of modern organized crime by one who lived it at the highest level. Today, with a new identity created by the Witness Security Program, Frankie continues to testify against his former colleagues, most of whom are dead or in jail." - from the rear outer cover.

Georgia Straight is the writing supplement of the Vancouver Free Press, first published in October, 1969. In a note in the January 28 - February 4, 1970 issue, "What We're Up To", Stan Persky and Dennis Wheeler write that they wanted to give poems and accompanying illustrations more space than was possible in the newspaper, to bring poets to a wider audience than that offered by the "little magazines", and to give the supplement a "political" character in the sense of developing a relationship with the community.Among the contents of this issue are prose and poetry by Robert Creeley, Gladys Hindmarch, Dennis Wheeler, Robin Blaser, Ebbe Borregaard, George Bowering, Harold Dull, Fred Wah, and others.
