Edited and with an Introduction by George C. Schoolfield. And, illustrated by Bjorn Landstrom. Bound in black pictorial dust jacket, over beige cloth boards with decoration and lettering in gilt and dark brown, colour frontispiece. This English translation by Friberg is the first by a native-born Finn. The Kalevala is a 19th-century compilation of epic poetry. It is derived from a combination of Finnish, Karelian, and Ingrian folklore and mythology. This copy is very good to near fine. The jacket is only very good. It has several closed tears, and creasing, mainly along the top of the rear panel. The jacket is now protected from further damage with a Brodart cover.
