Textsauber "Furchau: Adolf Friedrich Furchau, geb. zu Stralsund am 22. Febr. 1787, am 20. Juni 1868 ebendaselbst, war der Sohn des Stralsunder Rectors Ad. Fr. F. (s. d.). Auf dem Gymnasium der Vaterstadt vorgebildet, studirte er 180610 in Göttingen und Greifswald und ward 1814 Diaconus an der St. Jacobi-Kirche und 1823 Pastor an der St. Johannis-Klosterkirche in Stralsund, bekleidete auch zugleich das Amt eines Schulrathes bei der Stralsunder Regierung. Frühzeitig für die Poesie begeistert, widmete er sich neben seiner Fachwissenschaft in eigenen Schöpfungen der dramatischen Dichtkunst und veröffentlichte auf diesem Felde: "Kaiser Otto III.", Trauerspiel, 1809; "Herzog Christian von Braunschweig", 1816; "Die Gemeine zu Joppe", 1817; "Hans Sachs", I. Thl. 1819, II. Thl. 1820; "Franz von Sickingen", Trauerspiel, 1821. Seine wesentliche Bedeutung liegt jedoch in der außerordentlichen Vielseitigkeit seiner im gereiften Alter gepflegten Bestrebungen und Leistungen für die engere pommersche Heimath. Mit hervorragenden Geistesgaben ausgestattet, setzte er nicht nur seine dichterische und litterarische Thätigkeit fort, sondern widmete er sich auch der Geschichte der bildenden Künste und zeigte eine ungewöhnliche Befähigung für technische Erfindungen. Aus diesem Grunde war sein Haus und seine Persönlichkeit ein Mittelpunkt geistigen Lebens, von dem Stralsund und Pommern eine fortgesetzte Anregung, sei es in seiner Theilnahme für die der Kultur, Geschichte, Litteratur und Kunst gewidmeten Vereine, sei es durch eigene künstlerische und poetische Arbeiten empfing. Während der Eindruck des rügischpommerschen Küstenlandes sich bei Karl Lappe (geb. 1773, 1843) mehr in lyrischer Form, sowie bei Theodor Schwarz (geb. 1777, 1850) und Friedrich Klupper (geb. 1802, 1862) im Roman gestaltete, wirkte F. im Gebiete des Epos und veröffentlichte in dieser Richtung mehrere specifisch pommersche Dichtungen, unter denen wir erwähnen: "Arkona", Heldengedicht in 20 Gesängen, 1828 (vgl. Beck`s Repert. 1828. 4, 288); "Die Insel Rügen", 12 Gedichte, 1830; "Adalbert, der Preußen Apostel", 3 Bde., 1831".
