Insgesamt erschien der Almanach von 1804 bis 1806 in jeweils vier Bänden. - "Gürnth, Christine Dorothee, geborne Hentschel, die Verfasserin vieler geschätzten hauswirthschaftlichen Schriften, war die Tochter des Sekretärs Hentschel und zu Goschnitz in Schlesien am 1. Juni 1749 geboren. Von Jugend auf in beschränkte Verhältnisse gebannt, erhielt die Erziehung des ohnehin kränklichen Mädchens durch den frühen Tod des Vaters eine beklagenswerthe Unterbrechung. Zwar übernahm ihre Tante, die verwitwete Superintendentin Leffel in Brieg, die Sorge für die verwaisten Kinder ihres Bruders; allein als durch den siebenjährigen Krieg diese würdige Frau ihr Vermögen verloren hatte, sah sich ihre Pflegetochter ganz auf sich selbst verwiesen und mußte sich ihren Unterhalt größtentheils durch Unterrichtsstunden und weibliche Arbeiten verdienen. 1773 verband sich Dorothea Hentschel mit dem Rektor Gürnth in Neustadt, der 1178 als Prediger nach Brieg berufen wurde, so daß seine Gattin noch ein Jahr den Umgang ihrer theuern Erzieherin genoß. Nach ihres Gatten Tode 1803 bezeichneten abermals mannichfacher Kummer und trübes Geschick die Lebenstage der verwitweten Gürnth, die außer so vielen harten Schlägen auch den Tod zweier geliebten Söhne zu beweinen hatte. Mit Krankheit und Sorgen unablässig kämpfend, hielt sie nichts aufrecht, als die Anerkennung, deren sich ihre zahlreichen literarischen Arbeiten, die sie meist unter dem Namen Amalie herausgab, erfreuten. Dieselben verbreiten sich fast durchgängig über die verschiedenen Zweige der hauswirthschaftlichen Thätigkeit und der weiblichen Oekonomie überhaupt Die edle Dulderin vollendete mit ruhiger Ergebung am 19. Januar 1813; eine langwierige, zehrende Krankheit, der ihr durch vieljährige Sorgen und Leiden geschwächte Körper endlich unterliegen mußte, endigte ihr Leben" (Damen Conversations Lexikon, Band V (1835), S. 83 f.). - Durchgehend etwas braunfleckig, gutes dekorativ gebundenes Exemplar.
