The author traces political trials through various eras, from the beginning of the Republic, to the Industrial Revolution and rise of the labor movement, through World War I, the rise of communism and the McCarthy period, to the antiwar protests during the Vietnam War. Central to the book is the American Orthodox Political Ideology, the commonly held belief that our justice system is impartial. However, Gallo demonstrates how the infusion of politics into political trials serves to pervert justice and contradict the American Orthodox Political Ideology. A chilling pattern emerges in trial after trial in which politics influences the final verdict and clouds the administration of justice, the innocent are punished, and the American judicial system as a whole is diminished.
