Brigadier 'Peter' Lucas Phillips (1897-1984), was a heavily decorated was hero, best known for his war stories including 'Cockleshell Heroes' and the 'Greatest Raid', but also wrote gardening books, of which this one has become a gardening 'bible' for a generation of small house dwellers. Quite scarce in this first impression.
