Abbildungen, eingebundenes Brieffaksimile. --------- Der in Meiningen geborene Schweizer Kaufmann, Kunstsammler und Maler Carl Geldner (1841-1920) ging 1866, als 24jähriger Kaufmann, nach Venezuela, wo er in einem Handelshaus in La Guaira arbeitete. Als die Firma 1867 pleite ging, beschloss Geldner, sein Glück als Goldgräber im Hochland der venezolanischen Guayana zu suchen. Er hatte jedoch wenig Erfolg und kehrte krank nach Europa zurück, wo er später ein erfolgreicher Geschäftsmann wurde. Seine Reiseerlebnisse und zahlreiche Zeichnungen und Aquarelle des künstlerisch begabten jungen Kaufmannes wurden 1913 unter dem Titel ğReiseaufzeichnungen aus Spanien und VenezuelaĞ in Basel veröffentlicht. Eine Neuausgabe ğSkizzenbücher der Reise nach VenezuelaĞ erschien Basel 1997. Hier eine in Venezuela gedruckte zweisprachige Ausgabe in Deutsch und Spanisch.
