Contemporary red full morocco, blind ruled, with raised bands and a gilt title to spine. A couple of small blemishes to rear cover. Binding square and firm. All edges gilt. Eton prize bookplate to end paper, with matching inscription to first blank. Sporadic foxing within. A 'Very Good+' copy.

Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. First title page with black frame, second with framed illustration. With illustrations throughout, original and from the Antique, drawn on wood by George Scharf, Jun. Contains list of illustrations at rear. Binding with light wear along edges, some scuffing along front hinge. Damp-staining on endpapers, title pages and last two pages, else only in margins.

Custom binding by Jones & Evans, Ltd., a London bookseller, bindery, and stationer during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Full Morocco with floral gilt detail on the spine and covers. Two raised bands and attractive art nouveau text stamped on the spine. Pastel end papers with bindery stamp on the front free end paper verso. Toning at the edges of the end papers with wear along the corners of the cover boards and along the spine, AEG. Text is clean with mild foxing throughout. Very good.
