The spine has reading creasing and edge rubbing with a two inch piece of tape around it at the top and a two inch tear at the bottom next to the back cover. There is a price in black pen to the front cover which also has a long black pen mark across it and there is a small number in pen to the back cover on both the outside and the inside. Some tape marks to the inside of the back cover and the final page where it has been reinforced. Browning to the page edges. Browning to pages which are otherwise clean and unmarked. First printing. A popular series of reprints of the works of contemporary writers, Hodder and Stoughton issued their yellow jackets from the 1920s to the early 1940s, paused during the war and then had a brief revival in the 1950s. The series comprises mysteries, westerns, detective stories and thrillers for the most part, and are easily recognised by their distinctive yellow background (albeit reminiscent of the Gollancz yellow jacket series), often fronted with bold and colourful illustrations.
