Appelé Mathias par sa famille, simplement "Villiers" par ses amis, il utilisait le prénom d'Auguste sur la couverture de certains de ses livres. Parmi ses ancêtres collatéraux, on relève le maréchal Jean de Villiers, Grand-Maître de l ordre de Rhodes, devenu depuis ordre de Malte, de 1288 à 1294 et vice-roi de Chypre pendant l'intermède des Lusignan : à ce titre, Villiers prétendait avoir des droits sur le trône de Grèce, ce qui ne l'empêcha pas de mener une vie de bohème et de misère.

These seem to have been previously printed in a slightly different format, as sheets in weekly issues of La View Parisienne. Offered here as a separate volume. Soft covers and 21 leaves, printed to one side of each only. In fact there are ten doubl…e page spreads of potentials sins! This is published in magazine format, with large soft (stiff card) covers. There are darkened and a little nicked to the edges, and splitting to much of the spine. Internally, most of the gathers are disbound. The double sheets are still in one piece, and on the whole are clean and tidy. The whole is an attractive art nouveau vision of the deadly sins, where they are shown as attractive and slightly erotic. A scarce item. We can find none online available at the present time. Conforms to WorldCat OCLC: 474435841, 40cm x 29cm.
