This copy is the 1946 publication with no later printing history. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of bookbinding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.

DJ shows chipping and tears along the edges and there is a very large tear at the fold for the front flap, to where it was only held on by about 2 inches at the top. The dust jacket was placed in a protective mylar sleeve after most of the photos were taken to prevent any additional damage. Brown cloth boards underneath show a lot of spotting but only minor edge wear. Internal binding is good, though there is some pulling at spots, particularly at the title page where the binding string is exposed. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting found except for a name underlined on the backside of the DJ. Text pages appear clean but the end pages and pastedowns both show soiling and foxing, as does the exterior page edges. The copyright page states second edition.
