Mein Chor - 'Herzfreude' erschien in der letzten Nummer der n. m. Presse vollkommen fehlerlos! Eberle & Co müssen einen sehr tüchtigen Corrector haben [.]".- Franz von Gernerth ist heute noch bekannt für seine Textfassung des Walzers "An der schönen blauen Donau". Da die ursprünglichen Verse von Josef Weyl zu starken Bezug zum jeweiligen Zeitgeschehen hatten, wurde das Werk in der Chorversion eher selten aufgeführt. Als Mitglied des Wiener Männergesang-Vereins, dem Johann Strauss (Sohn) dieses Werk gewidmet hatte, dichtete er 1889 einen neuen Text, der nun auch den Titel des Walzers berücksichtigte und dem Werk zu einer Wiedergeburt verhalf. Die Erstaufführung mit Gernerths Worten fand am 2. Juli 1890 anlässlich einer Sommer-Liedertafel des Vereins im Dreher-Park in Meidling statt.
