The first is Pietro Gherardi, who is also known as a translator of Aristotle. His poems are addressed to many prominent figures of the time including Francesco de' Medici, Pietro da Barga, Antoine Muret (who dedicated him in return a long poem ?Ad Petrum Gerardium'), Flaminio Nobili, and Tarquinia Molza, just to mention a few. The second poet is the philologist and humanist Roberto Titi, who was only 20 years old when he published his poems. He was involved in a fierce dispute with Scaliger and later obtained a professorship in Bologna. Titi ended his life in Pisa, where he was invited by Grand Duke Ferdinand. Among his poems there is one called Gephyromachia pisana (pp. 157-159), which is dedicated to the famous Gioco del Ponte (?Bridge Game') of Pisa (cf. M.I. Aliverti & M. Alderigi, Il Gioco del Ponte di Pisa: memoria e ricordo di una città, Pisa, 1980, p. 142, no. 9.1). The present is one of the few editions signed by Carlo Pettinari, a printer from Bologna who worked in Florence either on his own or in partnership with the heirs of Lorenzo Torrentino.Edit 16, CNCE20813; USTC, 832532; Adams, G-567.
