Add to basketHardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. HR Giger (illustrator). 1st Edition. Brand new/unread first edition in new/unread condition. Signed by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein by was of affixed bookplate. A beautiful coffee table art book chronicling the extraordinary collaboration between Debbie Harry and H.R. Giger for Harry's 1981 solo album KooKoo. When the visual artist H.R. Giger, best known for his biomechanical creature and set design for seminal 1979 sci-fi-horror film Alien, encountered Debbie Harry, the punk icon and lead singer of globally successful New Wave band Blondie, the results were sublime. The artwork for Harry's 1981 debut solo KooKoo album cover was deemed so frightening it was originally banned on the London Underground. The fantastical videos for two of the tracks on the album, 'Backfired' and 'Now I Know you Know,' featured Giger himself piercing an Egyptian sarcophagus and a newly brunette Harry reimagined as a xenomorphic Giger creature. With photographs and words by Chris Stein, Harry's long-term collaborator, artefacts and sketches from the Giger archive, and an introduction by Debbie Harry, this is an essential behind-the-scenes insight into the processes of an incredible creative partnership. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. Limited Edition. Condition: About Fine. Special Limited Edition, this copy is #138 of a limited 300 printed. Large Folio, 95 pp. Fully bound in black leather with cover and spine titles stamped in gilt. Illustrated endpapers. Oscar-winning designer of the movie Alien, Giger's art is unmistakable; his dystopian vision, wherein biomorphic creatures are seemingly both product and progenitors of their grimly biomechanical environments, have redefined dark fantasy art from the 1980s on. Giger has produced work in numerous formats, including set and creature design, sculpture, drawing and painting, book covers and album covers. This book comprises a retrospective showcase, from 1964-88, of Giger's work, with running commentary by Giger himself, with over 200 drawings, paintings, and sculptures. and including concept art for the film Poltergeist II, and design paintings for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer albums. With a foreword by legendary Science Fiction author and longtime Giger fan Harlan Ellison, who dubs him "out latter-day Hieronymus Bosch." Includes a signed and numbered limited edition Giger print of a 1985 Giger drawing suitable for framing, and a certificate of authenticity from the publisher. There are a few very minor rubbed spots on the back cover, mostly near the bottom front, and a small mark on the front near the spine, difficult to see except in the right light, and there is very light thumbing mid-page through about the middle of the book, but otherwise the book is Fine. In an about-fine cloth slipcase with a couple of very light rubbed marks on the front. The laid-in Giger print is sized very slightly larger than the book cover, and due to inattentive handling has been slightly spindled and torn along the top and bottom edge by the slipcase.
