A reissue of the first edition of Milan, 1556, with new preliminaries and final leaf. Juan de Miranda insisted this work be published due to its many scientific insights and excellent literary style. This work is divided into two parts: the first details celestial astronomy to assist with navigation while the second part is devoted to discoveries in the New World from Columbus through the year 1555. On pp.186 to 227, is an extensive description of North and South America, from Canada ("Tierra del Labrador," "Tierra de Baccallaos") to Peru. Tables of latitude and longitude of nearly 200 American cities and locations are on pp.228-235, followed by a treatise on navigation (pp.236-270). The world map of Caspar Vopelius, titled "Typo de la Carta Cosmographiaca de Gaspar Volpellio Medeburgense" is often lacking in copies of this book. Girava died at Porto d'Ercole, Tuscany on February 4, 1556, just before publication of his book. The last hundred pages all concern America, from Columbus through to the year 1550.   Borba states that this "Venice edition is in fact the edition of Milan, 1556, with a reprinted title-page and preliminary leaves, the last, with the names of the printers, having been removed, and the printer's mark has been retained.
