Questa assenza produce una percezione incompleta del nostro territorio e non restituisce pienamente il senso dell'identità toscana. La costa è invece un pezzo fondamentale dell'identità della regione. La sua storia, legata in larga misura al mare, è parte integrante del paesaggio, della società e dell'economia della Toscana: i porti sono la nostra finestra nel mondo, il turismo costiero costituisce una risorsa importante. Il contributo della costa è dunque essenziale sia per le esportazioni dei nostri manufatti sia per far convergere in Toscana importanti flussi di reddito. (Enrico Rossi).
