Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Large post8vo, [ii], xxxiii, [i - errata second edition], 335; xxiv, 383; [ii], ix, [i - errata], 371; [viii], vi, 405 p. Five multi-folding engraved maps complete: Vol. I The World with its latest discoveries plus A new map of Spain Designed for the present state of Spain; Vol. II Italy Switzerland and Germany; Vol III The British Islands plus A map of Ireland principally intended to shew the position of the Chief Groups of Mountains and the Courses of the greater Rivers. Copied with some additions from Beaufort's small Map, by permission. Contemporary brown full tree calf, gilt on red and black lettering pieces, single gilt rule around all boards, edges of the boards gilded, narrow silk bookmarks in Vols. 3 and 4. In volumes one, two and three a forename and surname have been neatly cut out of the titles after 'Terraquea;' and on either side of 'or, a', the missing paper has been replaced with old paper and not affecting the printing on the titles of Vols. I and II, however there is slight damage to the T and E of Terraquea in the title of Vol. III otherwise a near fine clean set with good margins and excellent maps. Vols. II, III and IV are first editions and dated 1793, 1795 and 1798. Note, ECCO does not list the 1790 first edition of Vol. I though it is in the British Library and EEBO does not locate Terraquea at all. Gordon was listed as Vicar of Barragh up to Vol. IV when he was listed as Rector of Cannaway, in the Diocese of Cork, and Vicar of Barragh, in the Diocese of Leighlin.
