"As memory serves, the famous Wirths Circus paid two visits to my home town of Balclutha during my boyhood in the 1920s. It came by rail and appraently stayed just the one dramatic day. On both occasions the big top and its attendant menagerie tent were set up in vacant paddocks near our back-street house, once indeed almost directly across the road. The following reminiscences may have some subject interest outside its tentative story form. It was written fairly close to the event - about 1938 - and one or two emendations have been made for this belated printing." - page 7. Nag's Head Press checklist item #107.
