Rüssel (1898), describing an instrument consisting of a sausage-shaped silk bag rendered air tight by a very thin rubber bag within, and mounted on the end of a tube or hollow bougie (Brit. Med. Georg Gottstein (1868-1936) "studierte 1888-94 Medizin an der Univ. Breslau, sammelte erste praktische Erfahrungen am S…tädtischen Krankenhaus Urban in Berlin und wurde 1895 an der Univ. Breslau mit der Arbeit Versuche zur Heilung der Tetanie mittelst Implantation von Schilddrüse und Darreichung von Schilddriisenextract promoviert. Seil 1896 Assistent an der Chirurgischen Universitätsklinik Breslau, habilitierte er sich dort 1902 mit der Studie 'Die gleichzeitige doppelseitige Vagotomia supradiaphragmatica beim Hunde und ihr Einfluß auf die Kardia'. Seit 1906 war Gottstein Prof, und Primararzt an der Chirurgischen Abteilung des Israelitischen Krankenhauses in Breslau. Bekannt wurde er vor allem mit seinem 1901 erschienenen Buch Technik und Klinik der Oesophagoskopie. Nach Gottstein wurde ein spezielles Operationsverfahren (cxiramusköse Kardiomyotomie) hei Kardiospasmus benannt; 1908 veröffentlichte er ein später gebräuchliches Verfahren der endoskopischen Ballondilatation, ebenfalls bei Kardiospasmus."
