Eigentlich ? und genau genommen ? nicht für die Mit…welt bestimmt ? erste Eindrücke, Versuche, Übungen; ja, sehr oft zahllos wiederholte Angriffe, ein Thema zu meistern. Gramatte hat daher einen großen Teil seiner Zeichnungen vernichtet, und der heutige Bestand ist ein mehr oder weniger zufälliger. Es gibt aus der früheren Zeit Jahre, und zwar besonders produktive Jahre, aus denen kaum eine Zeichnung erhalten ist, während er in den letzten Jahren zu dem wahrscheinlich beabsichtigen 'Aufräumen< nicht mehr gekommen ist. « Steht diese Feststellung, die Ferdinand Eckhardt den 36 Zeichnungen Gramatts im Ausstellungskatalog der Kunsthalle Bremen 1970 voranstellte, nicht im Widerspruch zu unserem lange gehegten Vorhaben, den Zeichnungen des Künstlers eine eigene Veranstaltung zu widmen? Tatsächlich hat dieser, wie uns scheint, nicht weniger bedeutende Teil seines CEuvres in der großen Reihe von Einzel- und Kollektivausstellungen Gramatts zu Lebzeiten und auch später keine besondere Beachtung gefunden. Warum also eine Ausstellung Ton Blättern, die »nicht für die Mitwelt bestimmt« waren und bislang nur im Zusammenhang mit den danach ausgeführten Werken ? Gemälden, Aquarellen, Druckgraphik im besonderen ? gesehen und gewürdigt wurden? Warum Entwürfe vorstellen, die schon im Format weniger repräsentativ erscheinen ? einem Format, das heutigen Künstlern als Ausdrucksmittel wohl unzumutbar erschiene ? gutes Exemplar, ordentlich, * Verlag: Düsseldorf : Boerner * Bindung: broschiert.
