Condition: Fine. Limited Edition. No. 88 of 195 limitation, signed by Lt. Gen. James H. Doolittle and also by Colonel C. Ross Greening. Oblong, 25.5 by 34 cm. Unpaginated, 58 leaves, with 50 numbered color plates, and text explanation on facing page, which is generally the verso of the preceding plate. Four smaller illustrations, in color, on title and text pages. James Harold Doolittle, better known as Jimmy Doolittle (1896-1993) was an American war hero and aviator best known for the Doolittle Raid, an air raid on the primary islands of Japan just a few months after Pearl Harbor, but also before and after achieved a good number of aviation firsts. He also was a general in the U.S. military. This book celebrates Doolittle's experiences primarily during the Second World War, mostly through vivid pictures but with accompanying text that explains the visual depictions with a breezy, easy-to-read manner. Col. Greening (1914-1957), who was the primary force behind this hagiography, was himself a pilot and participated in the Japan Raid under Doolittle, among other heroic wartime exploits. The cover of this limited edition has gilt impressed lettering and an illustration of an old air controller's tower. Hardcover. Cloth (Linen). Plastic comb spiral.
