Inscribed by the author to noted art historian Caroline Houser (Greek Monumental Bronze Sculpture (Thames & Hudson, 1983); Dionysos and His Circle (Fogg Art Museum, 1979)), long associated with Smith College and the Fogg. Inscription reads: "For Dr Houser, With great love and admiration. I owe it all to you, Thea." Laid in is a letter from the author to Caroline Houser concerning the publication of the book.
