Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Original bdg. HC. 4to. (30 x 24 cm). Edition in English. 325 p., b/w and color ills. The Constantinople years. February 07 - May 10 2020, Istanbul, Mesher. [Exhibition catalogue]. Prep. by Aysenur Güler, Vita Susak. Edited by Nilüfer Sasmazer. Alexis Gritchenko, (1883-1977) was part of the modern art scene and exhibited with avant-garde artists including Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinsky, Vladimir Tatlin and many others. Gritchenko was also an art critic and published articles, books; delivered public lectures, and taught in an art school. He decided to escape the civil war which followed the Russian Revolution of 1917. Leaving Moscow, he arrived in Istanbul in November 1919. Although the two years Gritchenko spent in Istanbul coincided with the occupation of the city, the Ottoman capital provided the artist with a relatively safe refuge until he left in 1921. On his arrival, he was instantly attracted by the colors and dynamism of Istanbul. He recorded his impressions of the vibrant ports, markets, sacred spaces, and majestic monuments while wandering through the streets, notepad, pen and brush in hand. Looking at his vast corpus of Istanbul works, one can retrace the cultural and social imprint of those turbulent years through the eyes of a visitor. Now, 100 years after the visit of Gritchenko to Istanbul, a great part of the works the artist created in the city, a collection of watercolors, gouaches, sketches, and oil paintings have been compiled into the book Alexis Gritchenko - The Constantinople Years. More than 150 works have been included in the publication alongside articles by art historians Vita Susak and Aysenur Gu?ler, detailing the artist's life and technique, as well as the connections and friendships he formed during his stay in Istanbul, including those between him, Ibrahim Çalli, and Namik Ismail.

Zustand: Gut | Seiten: 548 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | The special interest in electronics all over the world is due to its decisive role in the scien tific and technical progress now taking place in all fields of modern technology. Electronics also plays a decisive role in the development of science, providing as it does the technical basis for various scientific experiments. The role of electronics in the development of the world's culture also deserves a special mention. That is why it is hoped that the English-German French-Dutch-Russian Dictionary of Electronics, which contains some 9.000 entries and is jointly published by Kluwer Technische Boeken, B.V. (Deventer, Holland) and Ruski Yazyk Publishers (Moscow, USSR) will be favourably received. In accordance with existing international tradition, the term «electronics» covers several fields known in Soviet classification as elec tronics proper, radio engineering, and wire communication. The entries included in this dictionary have been selected in accordance with the international understanding of the term «electronics». One of the main difficulties encountered by the compilers was that although according to some calculations the number of terms used in special literature on electronics exceeds 50.000, the vocabulary of the dictionary had to be restricted to only 9.000 entries. Therefore this dictionary cannot claim to be comprehensive. Its purpose is to enable a wide range of specialists in various countries to find the English, German, French, Dutch, or Russian equivalents of the principal and most up-to-date terms in the field of electronics. Most attention has been paid to quantum electronics, fibre optics, optoelectronics, integrated circuit technology, radiolocation and radionavigation, pulse technique, holography, etc.

"'Two Years in Constantinople' is the title of a work published in 1930, in which Gritchenko recounts his experiences in a city that spared him nothing -- neither suffering nor the consolation found in the joy and rapture of beauty. These were two years of misery and intense work, which shaped Gritchenko into the artist and man that we admire today." (Paul Fierens) The book features 40 lithographs, including 16 full-page illustrations, 13 within the text, and 5 vignettes, initials, and cover reproductions, all showcasing Gritchenko's famous and highly prized watercolors. Maxime Fonsèque (1891-1965), apprenticed at Lotric, is renowned for his distinctive style marked by the incorporation of vertical elements that blend morocco and paper, separated by broad gilt roulettes. A beautiful copy of an inquisitively published book enriched by original watercolor in fine contemporary binding.
