hardcover. Condition: very good(-). Engraved historiated title with anatomical scenes and portraits of Hippocrates, Guilbert and Galen (damaged at outer margin). Thick 12mo, contemporary limp vellum with manuscript title on spine. Paris: Jean Jost, 1632. This collected edition contains the following individual works: Le Medecin Charitable (98 pages); Le Prix et Valeur des Medicamens, Simples et Complex (73 pages); L'Apothiquaire Charitable(4 parts, 206 pages); La Maniere d'Embaumer les Corps Morts, and others. Guibert (d. 1633) was a very famous Paris physician, whose works were potent weapons in the then raging quarrel of the Faculty of Medicine at Paris with the apothecaries over the use of chemicals. Guibert wrote these "charitable" texts to make academic medicinal recipes available to the general public.

Only copy located of the Gesselin issue of the 1634 edition of a remarkably popular collection of medical texts by the French physician Philibert Guibert (1579?-1633) (and others). As indicated by the title, Guibert wrote these "charitable" texts to make academic medicinal recipes available to the general public for an affordable price. At the same time it was an attack on the practices and utility of apothecaries as he provided details on how to compose common pharmaceutical compounds and advised the public to buy the ingredients directly. Of course, the recipes were to be executed under the direction of a physician. The present edition has previously been known only from the Claude Griset issue (also rare), published in the same year: the engraved title-page bears both Griset's and Gesselin's name, while the letterpress title-page of the other known copies has only Griset's name in the imprint and the present copy only Gesselin's.With owner's inscription of A. de Grateloup on paste-down. Some occasional minor foxing, three leaves have a small corner torn-off and some leaves have some wormholes in the margins. A good copy.l WorldCat (5 copies of Griset issue only); this edition not in Krivatsy; Wellcome; SUDOC. Contemporary limp sheepskin parchment, manuscript title on spine. With engraved title-page. Pages: [22], [2 blank], "718"[=710], [2], 24 pp.
