Its author, Mr. H. Butgenbach, visited the area in 1908 and was impressed by the abundance of potential mining sites, dismissing the commonly held belief that such resources were absent from the region, a notion later dispelled as well via reports from British consuls and journalists from The Times of London. Butgenbach was convinced of the industrial potential of Katanga, predicted it would become a major producer of metals, and argued that Belgium could greatly benefit from the region's resources. The author not only presents arguments about the area's economic significance but also discusses aspects such as the geography, climate, and population, addressing some of the misconceptions about Katanga. The author concludes that Katanga has the potential to become a major economic force, a view that would eventually be borne out. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
