Heinrich Simroth (1851-1917) wurde berühmt durch seine hier vorliegende Pendulationstheorie. Nach dieser Theorie "pendelt die Nordsüdachse der Erde zwischen zwei festen Polen, sogenannten Schwingungspolen, Ecuador und Sumatra, hin und her; die Pendelausschläge bedeuten die geolog. Perioden.
